Sweep It Under The Rug

Perhaps you’ve noticed that there have been way too many instances of censorship of conservatives recently.  Websites, Twitter accounts, YouTubers, Reddit, Trello users and lots of others are systematically being silenced by far left companies bound and determined to keep their political narratives going.  This is especially flagrant in view of the upcoming election.

While we don’t try to engage specifically in political arguments or activities, we still have a responsibility to get our message out to those who are hurting.  So, our conservative voice is important.  We can’t advise anyone on which candidates to vote for, but we can advise people to VOTE!

The recent debacle of the Justice Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings brings up the need for a call to action.  The ridiculous circus surrounding his confirmation clearly indicated there is a problem in this country.  As a ministry devoted to helping women and men heal from abortion, we are very aware of the issues facing modern society regarding sexual sins.  We are also staunchly in favor of the rule of law and of fairness.

After the confirmation of another conservative Justice of the Supreme Court, we are thrilled that sanity and legal conservatism have gained ground.  With this in mind, I want to bring our attention back around to the censorship that has been getting worse, especially the nearer we get to the mid-term election.

Voting in this country is one of the most sacred duties we have as citizens of a free nation.  We want to make sure you feel the call to action to get out and vote.  People on the right need to make their voices heard instead of staying silent.  In this political frenzy we find ourselves in, silence isn’t golden, it’s deadly.

When the voices of conservative platforms are silenced through censorship, everyone suffers.  Fairness and good political discourse requires that both sides of issues are discussed.  By stopping the free exchange of ideas, our country suffers.

One of the most glaring instances of censorship came to my attention today.  There are some strange things happening regarding the recent movie about Kermit Gosnell, the abortion doctor who was convicted of murder and many other crimes.  The movie has apparently done extremely well in theaters, but has now been dropped considerably in theaters all over the country.

There could be many reasons for this, but some of the unusual stories being circulated caused its creators to question if they are being censored.  Below is a link to the article which brought this to my attention.

The point I want to make, however, has more to do with the way we humans tend to deal with things which make us uncomfortable.  The issue of abortion is very obviously one of those things.  It seems easier to try to sweep it under the rug rather than have genuine dialogue.

Additionally, women who have had abortions and have come to regret them, often feel so much shame and fear that speaking of the subject is nearly impossible.  Our job at Petition Ministries is to help give a voice to those suffering this debilitating state.

By coming at the problem with the grace of Jesus Christ to forgive, we make a way to embrace those who need to deal with, very often, deeply buried pain.  We don’t ever condemn anyone who made a decision in crisis.  We refuse to silence them or censor their speech.

In our current society, the issue of abortion is taking front and center stage.  Those on the far left saw the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh as a potential threat to their sacred cow of abortion.  He may or may not be that.  But their reactions came in the form of radical and outlandish stunts and accusations.

The Gosnell movie may have opened some eyes and created a stir which some businesses were unprepared to deal with.  The silencing of the conservative truth seeking independent journalists on social media platforms seems to indicate that those opposed to free speech are indeed intent on silencing their opposition.

As we approach election day, I hope you will all keep these things in mind as you go to the poles.  Our country needs your voice, no matter which side of the political spectrum you are on.  Please take this to heart and VOTE so no one can take your voice and sweep it under the rug.

Our society is rife with commotion these days and with it a great lack of balance in our collective thinking.  Those of us who want to see righteousness govern instead of insanity, must continually work to remain balanced in our thinking.  Now, before you shoot nasty emails my way, let me explain…  I don’t in any way mean we are to compromise our standards!

To me, remaining balanced means being willing to listen to others whose viewpoints are not the same as mine, then evaluating the evidence they present by holding it up to the standards of the Bible.  This is a great challenge when Political Correctness has warped our national mindset.  We have to recognize that our stand for good and right will be challenged on every side.  So, keeping a balanced approach really means staying true to the Word of God.

As most of you probably know, the undercover videos that were released about selling baby body parts this year caused quite a commotion on newsfeeds and social media everywhere.  Although that has died down a little from the original releases, there is still lots of banter back and forth.  The CMP who produced the videos was ordered not to release the rest of the videos while Congress reviewed them in their entirety for the investigations being conducted.  Lies and misinformation were spread all over the liberal media during this process.

Once again, a video was released and is sure to continue the negative attention Planned Parenthood is battling.  I am relieved to see that the attempts to suppress the videos has been halted.  We can be certain more information will be forthcoming.

In the aftermath of the initial firestorm caused by the undercover videos, we are at risk of forgetting the outrage, as the fickle American public is prone to do given time and distance from a horrible event.  We have forgotten the revulsion, the indignation, the horror we all felt with each newly released video.  In an attempt to deflect attention from itself, the abortion industry has helped us forget.  But in the process, we have also forgotten something even more important.

We have forgotten the precious lives that were so brutally destroyed at the hands of that callous industry.

I was watching a video on Facebook the other day that showed a recording of an Apache attack helicopter’s response to a Taliban terrorist camp being uncovered in Afghanistan several years ago.  It was all recorded in black and white, having been made at night using sophisticated night vision equipment.

The video included strikes on targets that were designated for destruction by our military.  I’m not actually sure why I watched the video in the first place, since I usually try to shield myself most of the time from violent scenes.  But as I watched, it seemed surreal.  The little white human-like specs amid the darkened landscape appeared more like white blips on a radar screen.  It was like watching a video game.

The more I watched, the more calloused I could feel myself getting.  When a target moved, I felt like the gunner needed to shoot.  Suddenly, the reality began to hit me.  I was not witnessing a game.  This was war!  I was watching a human being losing its life.

Now, I understand that war is a fact of life, no matter how awful it gets.  I also recognize that evil must be stopped when it takes innocent lives in its quest for meeting its idealistic goals.  As much as I hate war, my sense of right and wrong gives me the ability to step back and see with eyes wide opened to the greater good.

As I saw those men losing their lives at the hands of other men, I also understood that it was unavoidable.  I could see how warriors would have to compartmentalize their emotions to be able to conduct the attacks.  Those young men in the helicopter would have grown up playing video games, pushing buttons relentlessly against targets on a screen.  Even if they did feel some type of remorse for what had to be done, they could dismiss those feelings because of the purpose behind their actions being “noble” to some degree.

My point here in telling you of this experience isn’t to debate war or its tactics and strategies.  However, after watching the combat video I couldn’t help but imagine how easy it would be for people working in the abortion clinics to become desensitized to the killing.

By using names like “product of conception”, “fetus,” “tissue,” or “samples,” the workers could so easily slip over into a place of not seeing the humanity of their victims.  Just like I began to slip over into that place watching the helicopter disintegrate the “target” on the ground in the videos.

The truth is, we are in a war in our society, whether we like it or not; and everyone is affected by it.  No one escapes this war.  Innocents are losing their lives in our nation at the rate if 1000 per day!  Those little “human-like” images on the black and white screens of the ultrasound machines are actual human lives being destroyed by an evil industry bent on its own misguided ideals.

Those precious lives must be protected.  That in no way is meant to incite anyone to respond with physical threats or violent actions toward any abortion worker!  God Forbid!

This war is one of mindset and principle.  It is a societal evil we are battling.  But it has real casualties just like any other war.  Lives are being lost.  The danger lies in allowing our hearts to become callous and unfeeling toward the precious innocent souls who cannot fight for themselves.

In this war, we can’t win it and save the innocents by using attack helicopters and violence.  Our only plausible responses must be born out of a heart of love.  We must love and respect every abortion worker no matter how twisted their thinking may seem to us.  We must see them as human beings, just as deserving of life as the tiny lives they are extinguishing or whose remains they are trafficking.

This truth shocks the mind of those of us who are so passionate about saving babies from this culture of death.  It slaps us in the face as we are called to react to the horrors released by each of the undercover videos.  Indeed, it would be easy to dismiss the reality of nearly 57 million babies our world doesn’t have in it today because of this travesty in our society.

But because our weapons are not missiles and bullets, we have to use words, protests, legal means and many other unconventional weapons.  The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5,

These verses reveal our powerful spiritual weapons and how we have to respond to the culture war about abortion.  It’s the only way we will gain any ground or win any of the battles.  Our weapons are love, compassion, understanding, mercy, grace and prayer.

After chewing on and wrestling with these concepts, I was left thinking about the little babies who were torn limb from limb or carved up on a lab countertop.  It makes my stomach turn just to write about it.  However, I know the Lord has given me a vehicle to make a difference.  It’s not the same as a powerful Apache helicopter, but it can be just as effective.

My vehicle is Petition Ministries.  Our desire is to help those who have been wounded by abortion and to honor those who have been disregarded, marginalized and literally thrown away in the process.

Our purposes are designed to lovingly guide the living victims through the grace, forgiveness and restoration Jesus Christ purchased by His holy innocent blood shed on the cross.  Our memorial service program is designed to facilitate this process. If you are one who has been wounded by abortion, we want to help you.  Please click here for information and a way to take advantage of this program free of charge to you.

But we don’t stop there.

God gave us a mandate of naming babies lost though abortion.  We want to put a tangible, visible marker in the vast graveyard of unknown “soldiers” in the abortion war.  Our petition drives, called EVERY NAME COUNTS, are designed to allow people just like you to see the “little white blips” on the screens as real precious babies.  We want everyone to grant them the dignity of a name.

Anyone can choose a name for a baby whose life was a casualty of this war.  Maybe giving dead babies a name doesn’t seem like it will change anything in the real world.  Maybe it doesn’t really make any difference… or does it?

In either case, if you make a statement to our society by signing our petition and giving a baby a name, you will be helping us use the weapons that are not of this world.  You can recognize these tiny human lives who were lost and take a stand for righteousness.

Our petition isn’t political, it’s spiritual!  We take the names given and offer them to the Lord in prayer petitions of repentance and confession before the Judge of the universe.  We ask Him to apply those names we offer to the nameless ones in heaven whose innocent blood cries out to Him for justice.

He is listening to the sound of their blood crying out from the ground of our nation.  We don’t know when the saturation point might be reached and God will release judgment on this land because of it.  We want to petition Him for mercy in the midst of judgment.

The estimates show that about 57 Million children have been aborted since 1973 in the US alone.  That’s unbelievable.  Every single one of those children deserved an earthly name.  Each one was a unique, unrepeatable creation of God deserving of as many rights to be loved and recognized as any other living soul.

Will you help us work toward our goal of naming the babies?  Our online petition currently has a little over 600 names posted.  We have millions to go.  We believe our prayers and statements of worth for each child will reach the ears of our Heavenly Father and perhaps He will be merciful to our nation and heal us from the ravages of the abortion war.

Please click on the link below and go to our Petition Drive page today.  You can make a difference!  I hope you will take the thoughts I shared today into consideration and make a decision on the side of righteousness.  In other words, let’s get balanced!

What happens when the method you use to keep from remembering a bad decision or a horrible event suddenly stops working?  What do you do then?  Where do you go from there?

The swirling controversy over the release of under cover video investigations into Planned Parenthood’s deceptive and horrific practices is causing the DENIAL bubble to burst for some people.

That means the method isn’t working anymore.  It means people all over this nation are beginning to question whether they made the right choice by having or encouraging an abortion.

Because we address the issue of post abortion pain, Petition Ministries wants to give people a way to deal with that pain, especially if it has been suppressed by years of stuffing down the emotions.  You probably already guessed it – this condition is called DENIAL.

As of this writing, the statistical estimates for our nation show approximately 57,000,000 – that’s Fifty-Seven Million – abortions have occurred since 1973.  If that figure is even nearly correct, that means there are 114,000,000 parents out there who are potentially losing their denial bubble.  I see that as One Hundred Fourteen Million people potentially not knowing how to navigate the negative emotions that might be flooding them during this upheaval.

It makes me want to cry.

To take that a step further, those figures mean there are potentially 456 Million Grandparents who could be affected.  I’m not even counting siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles who might be wondering about that child.

Okay, maybe I’m going a little too far.  Maybe only a tiny fraction of those people need help.  But maybe you are one of them.  If that’s the case, you may be asking that very question.  Where Do I Go From Here?

Our ministry has a very unusual and out-of-the-box solution for helping people address their emotional pain.  As one of our many non-profit services, we have set up a nationwide Petition Drive to grant names to babies who have been lost through abortion.  We call it “Every Name Counts.”

Names are so important in our world.  Parents take great care to choose just the right name for their babies.  People who have been affected by abortion may not have ever considered the healing that simply choosing a name for their baby can accomplish.

It’s not a magic button that suddenly makes the pain go away, but it is a wonderful first step out of denial.  It makes the child more real to you and gives the baby’s life dignity.

Dealing with anger or guilt toward the senseless loss of life and barbaric practices that the abortion industry has fostered, can be difficult, at best.  Choosing to grant a baby a name can give anyone a touch point to start a healthy grieving process.

Our online petition offers you a place to make a statement in our society that those precious lives matter.  It won’t stop the horror or make up for the loss, but it gives each person something they can do that’s positive and gets them moving in the right direction.

If you are one of those who has been affected deeply by the expose videos, please check out our online Petition Drive and let the world know those precious lives matter – at least to someone!

Petition Ministries welcomes you to our new blog.  I’m Desiree Figg, Executive Director and Founder.  I am an author, Bible Study teacher and was a Post Abortion Volunteer Peer Counselor for over 10 years.  This blog is designed to inform readers regarding the difficult after-affects of abortion and offers Hope, Healing and Closure for those wounded by it.  We will provide you with resources, information and encouragement across a broad spectrum of issues related to abortion and its lingering effects.  We pray that your hearts will be comforted, your eyes will be opened and that many will be equipped to address the pain, shame, guilt and anguish that affects others around them.

Our first subject comes on the heels of a horrifying scandal involving Planned Parenthood.  In working with clients whose lives have been devastated by abortion, one of the first items on my agenda to help them begin healing is to get them out of the initial stage of denial.  While God intended for denial to help us deal with immediately devastating circumstances, He never intended for us to live in that place.

Unfortunately, since the abortion issue has usually been relegated to a simple category of “personal choice,” the denial stage is not only prolonged, but it can become entrenched in the psyche of its victims.  The statistics are currently estimated at approximately one abortion in every 4 women.

Guttmacher Institute – http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html

“Half of pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion.  •Twenty-one percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion.  • In 2011, 1.06 million abortions were performed, down 13% from 1.21 million in 2008. From 1973 through 2011, nearly 53 million legal abortions occurred. • Each year, 1.7% of women aged 15–44 have an abortion [2]. Half have had at least one previous abortion.  • At least half of American women will experience an unintended pregnancy by age 45, and at 2008 abortion rates, one in 10 women will have an abortion by age 20, one in four by age 30 and three in 10 by age 45.”

8 Weeks Old In Utero
8 Weeks Old in Utero

These very sad statistics mean that many women and even men (it takes two!) could be suffering.  The grizzly nature of the undercover videos that have embroiled Planned Parenthood in a firestorm are enough to turn the stomachs of even the most innocently pro-abortion advocates.  What that means to me is that there are people who may never have experienced regret or grief who are now wondering about their “Choice” regarding abortion.

Petition Ministries comes at the abortion issue from a different perspective than some other religious organizations.  While we abhor and denounce abortion and its subsequent side effects, we recognize that those people who were caught in a Crisis Pregnancy were often lied to, coerced and usually misled.  In other words, full disclosure was not involved in the decision making process for many people.

That leaves millions of post-abortive souls suddenly realizing, perhaps for the first time, that the “tissue” they eliminated by having the abortion REALLY WAS A BABY with all the valuable organs and intrinsic parts that all humans have.  This devastating realization slices into an old scar that never healed properly from the beginning – from the inside out.  Healing needs to take place.  We want to help.

If you have suddenly found yourself in that predicament, we want you to know there is hope, healing and closure available to you. The Lord Jesus Christ paid for your sin through His sinless death on the cross.  He loves you no matter what you have done and He wants you to repent, confess what you did wrong and receive the boundless grace and forgiveness He holds out to you.

For those of you who may be utterly disgusted by the videos that have come out, please know this means the Lord is turning the tide on the issue of abortion in our nation.  That gives me hope!  And I hope it gives you a desire to help those who may be hurting around you.  If you know someone who is having a difficult time, your grace filled tenderness can reach out to them with the love of Jesus. Your non-judgmental arms can offer His comfort and your willingness to be used by the Lord could save a life.  To find out how you can help, please visit our website for more information. www.petitionministries.org
