Fingerprint Evidence

Everyone knows we each have unique fingerprints.  Every tiny baby in the womb begins to develop them as early as the second or third month and they are fully developed by six months in utero.  How they are formed is a fascinating study on its own.

  Fingerprint Evidence

God, in His loving care for His creation made each one of us completely special.  Every minute detail of our incredible bodies reflects His love, vast knowledge and intimate concern for His family.

Psalm 139:13-16 gives us a beautiful picture of this incredible process.

       13 “For You formed my inward parts;

            You wove me in my mother’s womb.

       14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and  wonderfully made;

            Wonderful are Your works,

            And my soul knows it very well.

       15 My frame was not hidden from You,

            When I was made in secret,

            And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;

       16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;

            And in Your book were all written

            The days that were ordained for me,

            When as yet there was not one of them.”

The subject of fingerprints does not end with the unique pattern evident in each individual person.  It also extends into the realm of physical evidence.  When police want to gather clues to a crime, they look for fingerprint evidence to catch the crook.

When it comes to the issue of abortion, we recognize the importance of the value of human life as we look at the fingerprint evidence each child carries.  But there is another type of fingerprint regarding the pain and wounding of those who have come to regret their abortion.

Everyone who has suffered an abortion, whether by choice or by force, carries an unusual fingerprint called SHAME, even if they are unaware of its existence.  Shame can be so debilitating that life is often full of despair, fear and anxiety.

So, as we seek to investigate where that shame comes from, to solve the riddle, we have to look at the fingerprint evidence.  Look no further than the first book of the Bible.  Genesis 2 & 3 gives us the first glimpse of where shame originated.

First, let’s look at Genesis 2.  It reveals the condition Adam & Eve had before they ate from the forbidden tree.

Genesis 2:24 & 25  “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”

You see that there was no shame.  But something happened after they were deceived by the devil.  Look at Genesis 3

Genesis 3: 10 & 11  “He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?””

Fear and hiding from the One with whom they had intimate daily fellowship was the first incident of shame.  Disobedience to a Holy, pure God created the condition for the devil’s fingerprint to appear.  Whenever it appears, you can be certain the evil culprit has been around, messing with God’s beautiful creation.

Abortion itself defies the initial and stated purpose God designed us for.  He set mankind over His creation on earth and told them to multiply.

Genesis 1:27 & 28  “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””

People who have participated in abortion and made a decision in crisis, whether they intended to or not, have violated God’s righteous purpose.  That condition results in the devil getting the upper hand and his messy disgusting fingerprints of shame show up.

So, how do we deal with this shame the enemy foists upon us when we go against God’s design and desire?  First, we must admit that our actions have caused us to sin against God.  It’s really hard for many post-abortive women, especially, to do that.  Why, because shame wants to keep everything a secret!

Fear of being rejected or hated is usually the first indicator that shame has touched you.  Remember, that’s what caused Adam & Eve to hide.  The Word says they were afraid, so they hid.  Shame is like a heavy, stinky wet blanket covering up the ugliness of sin beneath it.

Once a person seeks to hide from a loving, forgiving God, that awful blanket of shame can become impossible to get out from under.  But once you come to understand the grace God offers anyone who repents, the devil’s fingerprints are erased and shame is lifted.

Because of Jesus Christ and His perfect sacrifice for sin, a person who comes to Him for mercy and grace is forgiven completely.  His blood washes away the stain of sin and wipes away the devil’s fingerprints.  That is good news to those who suffer shame because of an abortion.

The important thing to remember is that the sin doesn’t look any different to God whether it’s the worst sin imaginable or a little white lie.  He forgives any sin repented of.  There are different consequences, and that’s another subject for another day.

The Apostle Paul gave us a glimpse of the principle of eliminating shame and removing the hidden aspect of it in 2 Corinthians 4:1 & 2

“Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

At the tender point of receiving forgiveness from God, shame can’t stay your covering for very long.  If you are covered by the blood of Jesus, shame must go!  Knowing the truth here is what sets you free. (John 8:32)

If you are suffering from the filthy fingerprint evidence of the devil’s shame, I encourage you to renounce it today and truly receive the forgiveness and grace the Lord wants you to live in.  Take a look at your fingerprints right now.  See the intricate beauty of what God did to make you a unique, unrepeatable creation.

Let go of the blanket of shame forever and never look back.  If you’re tempted to feel that shame again, recognize it as the fingerprint evidence of a defeated enemy. Hold your hands up to the Lord and thank Him for your unique signature and let the evidence of the truth be your banner instead.

Always in Jesus,
